New Scope Choice

Need glass for my latest rifle acquistion, a Kimber 8400 in 300 Win Mag. Right now considering the VX-5HD in 2-10x42 or the Swaro Z3 in 4-12x50. Would love to hear thoughts, or opinions on something else if anyone has real world comparisons. Trying to keep the budget around $800-$900.

What are the needs for this rifle/scope combo? Are you sticking to lightweight scopes?

That price point has a lot of good options in it.

This rifle will be for elk, and i am a 400 yard and under hunter right now. I do like to target shoot out to 600 yards.

I don’t want to get a real heavy scope. I like the idea of a 20 oz. or less scope.

Zeiss V4 3-12 is worth a look. Burris has a new Signature line coming out as well that looks interesting.

You aren't going to be dialing then, right? Using a BDC reticle or holdovers? Not many lightweight scopes that are worth a crap for dialing yardage.

For hunting, that is correct. I have the CDS on my VX-5 and that is fun to play with at the range but I’ve never used in for hunting. So For this rifle, i don’t need a dial

Ended up going with the Zeiss V4 in 3-12x44 with ballistic reticle. Should be here this week. Anyone use this scope and can give real world feedback?

Awesome scope! Have one used it last season, the scope in conjunction with ballistics app and reticle works good. Killed a deer at 602 using this exact set up
