Looking to replace the weatherby.
I have a vanguard in 338 win mag, love the caliber, but the rifle is a bit big for my taste. Which is why I got the ridgeline in 300wm. Either way, I may be selling the weatherby if I can find a rifle worth replacing it with.
Having a 270 in ruger 1 and a tikka, I was thinking a tikka in 243. But then I got to thinking, as a collector of the older jm stamped marlins, maybe give a swing at the new ruger ones? I also like the browning lever rifles, probably a 270 or 243, but I also like the browning autos. I like the mag fed lever guns bc then the caliber choice really jumps. I have a favorable number of bolt and lever guns so what’s a good small framed power puncher. Ruger ranch rifle ? Don’t need any black rifle types, I got what i need / want there. I’m asking to maybe get my brain outside the box of what I’m thinking. Caliber would be 243, 270 or 300, I could be convinced otherwise but im set up to reload a good deal of others.

That would be a fun gun. As I type this in the background I’m researching browning bar in 270. Wood stock

Saw a BAR in the used rack at a gun store the other day. Very cool rifles. Also saw an old Remington auto loader in .243 if I remember right.

If I were an eastern whitetail hunter, I would have a semi auto or lever gun in .243 for sure.

The one gun I kept of family rifles is an old lever 25-20 Winchester. Passed the others on to siblings.

The 243 is very tempting in the bar, but so is the 270!!!!! N I could use 270 for more. Dammit.

My old 30-30 marlin has earned its place

You said you have a Ruger #1 270. Maybe track down a used Ruger 1B in 6mm Remington or a used Ruger Hawkeye MKII in 6mm Remington. Both great rifles and I sure like my 1B in 6mm Remington. It is a fantastic shooter and has killed a ton of antelope, coyotes, deer, and one spike bull elk. My son has the MKII in 6mm and I can attest to the fine rifle that it is also.

How about a 25-06 maybe although it's awfully close to your 270 for most practicle needs. Here would be a sweet one too would be a 280AI. Easy cartridge to load for with impressive ballistics. I had one built on a Model 70 Classic Sporter (CRF made in USA. I sure love that rifle and cartridge.

A lot of your rifles are on the heavy side, a super light weight 243 would make you smile every time it’s picked up.

An Encore or XP100 pistol in 243 would be fun - I’ve never seen anyone shooting one that wasn’t smiling.

A Browning single shot in 243 would be a nice companion to the Ruger #1.

Browning or Savage lever action in 243 is cool.

Hmmmm. Very interesting. Never thought of another ruger 1. I like the ruger Hawkeyes and win 70, but between the tikka n ca, I was thinking semi auto
