new pieces from Sitka—Alpha Fleece hoody and vest

The material seems similar to the Kuiu Strongfleece series. Nice pieces but they didn’t breathe or block the wind very well

While these Alpha pieces don't block the wind as something with Windstopper fabric, they definitely block the wind much better than your typical fleece and they also breathe better than Windstopper. No experience with the Strongfleece stuff.

Would this be comparable to say a Kuiu 240? Maybe a hair warmer at 280

Yeah it’s really similar but a touch more jacket like.

Can anyone point me towards a sitka fleece that has more of hoodie feel and not a more jacket feel like this piece? Looking for something in black. Thanks.

I’ve had the hoody version for a couple of weeks now. In my very NON-expert opinion this is a more durable and wind resistant Ambient. It’s not quite as warm and it doesn’t breath as well (I have not found an insulation piece that breathes like the Ambient). We recently had a day where the weather sucked. It was high 30s with a steady 20-30 mph wind. I wore the Alpha for an extended hiking session and I was throughly impressed with how well it did in cutting the wind. There is no way I could have worn an Ambient in those types of conditions without a wind blocker piece of some type. Personally I love those piece and I will be adding more to the lineup.
