I'm going to need to replace my S10e sometime this year, likely. I've always had Androids but would be open to an iPhone if it suits my purposes better.

What I need-
Strong battery life
Good GPS function with OnX
Durability
Good service
Compact footprint

What I don't need-
Fancy camera
Games

Thoughts?

I've got the 2019 year model Motorola Moto G Power. It's got a 5,000mah battery and only costs about $220. It's done everything I need with no hiccups.

If you're interested, I'd wait until April or so. That's usually when Motorola releases the newest G series.

I was in a similar boat as you, had an iPhone 8 with a worthless battery and needed something new.
I got the new iPhone 12 (not the plus or pro). Was going to go with the 11 but wanted 5G. The battery life is outstanding, I can get 2 full days out of a charge with heavy personal and business use. OnX works like a charm, and loads faster than it did on the old phone.
I can’t compare it to Samsung, as I’ve only had iPhones or blackberry’s prior to this.

I’ve had both and still use an Android for digiscoping with my phoneskope so I don’t have to keep pulling my iPhone off and then looking at maps.

However, I’d vote for the IPhone personally because when BaseMap, onX, and these other platforms make updates, they make 1 update that gets pushed to all apple products from that one update and always do it first for iPhones. It takes forever for the developers to get them made for Android because it’s a pain In their asses since they need to create an app update for every specific phone. Plus, 3D mapping is offered on iPhones and not on all android options.

I am gonna be needing a new phone. I have an old iPhone 8 and it’s been a good one. Battery is going bad though. I think the se and the 8 are close to the same but different internals?
