New/old 1894 .30 WCF

I just took my latest addition to the safe out to the range for the first time today. She's a beautiful,118 year old, Winchester model 1894 30-30. The rear site is actually three folding sites that flip up for different yardages. I fired all these rounds using all three of the different site adjustments, offhand/leaning against a pole, at 100 yards. I'm super happy with the way this thing shoots and plan on taking it down to Kodiak this fall for deer.

AK--how did you age the rifle? I assume there is a serial number nomenclature somewhere but am curious and you obviously figured it out.

I'd live to have one just Pre 64.

That will look fantastic laying on a nice Sitka Blacktail.

There's several different places a person can go to access this information. Here's the website I went to Steve.
Winchester Model 1894/94 Dates of Manufacture

You just punch in your serial number and hit submit and the manufacture date comes right up. The serial number on this rifle is 150626 which makes the manufacture date 1899.

Beautiful. Old guns are so fun to shoot. Amazing how that rifle was cutting edge at its manufactured time. 30-30 was a speed demon.

History in your hands, every time you pick it up. Looks like its in fine shape. Original condition or touched up?

100% original and nothing has been touched up on it at all. Pretty much all of the bluing is gone but there is no pitting and all the wood is in pretty good shape. Nobody has ever tried to take it apart from what I can see as all of the screwheads are in perfect condition.

I went back to the range this morning with some (I think), better ammo and here are the results. It was a little warmer this morning but not by much. This was at 100 yards, shooting off a sandbag. I'll definitely try and tighten it up a bit, hopefully with reloading once I buy some dies, but I think this will kill a deer.

Beautiful rifle. Mine is a model 94 wcf made in November of 1941. I bought it from a 96 year old guy who won new at a raffle at work. I’m going to hunt it this year.
