New moose rifle needed?

Pretty much anything is a moose cartridge. From a 223 on up. If you want to keep it weird, why not a 444 marlin in a lever, or a 375 raptor with subs, 450 marlin, 500sw lever(or 460).
You already have a 280 rem, which honestly, I'd take hunting over the 358 win, but why not a 6.5x55 or one of the 9.3mm cartridges?

If not a modern belt- less round but max performance then you should definitely consider a 300 WBY
I have been spying them lately, or a MauserUSA as well. I bid on a 300Wby at a RMEF banquet two years ago, but eventually came down to me, and another guy with bottomless pockets.

Mine was a 300 WM Model 77 with a boat paddle stock. That was a great rifle, no doubt, but a heavy bastard...considering I'm the original UL-UL weenie.

When I first moved to Alaska I asked what I needed for moose and that's what was recommended. Within a couple years, I figured out that a little 20" 308 Scout Rifle would work just fine, and never looked back.

Seeing you have a 280 Remington, and a 358 Winchester, I'm just not seeing much gap a moose could squeeze through...but what fun is that?
Exactly, it's like women always need new shoes, right? My 358Win is a boat paddle. I recommend to anyone who has one to replace the plastic recoil plate with a Limb Saver pad. Makes night and day difference in the pleasure of shooting it.

I was afraid of losing maximum distance capability, and I do love big bores, and hence I own a 416 Rigby already
Very nice with the 416 Rigby! Is it a bolt or double?
I have been eyeing a double in 416 Rigby and always looking for a 470 NE at gun shows and collections when I travel.

I know a guy who hunts deer with one in GA actually

I deer hunt with mine a fair bit. Fun fun fun.

You never know when the moose might band together and fight back. If they do, do you want to be sitting there with a paltry 4 rounds on tap from your non-stripper-clip-loadable bolt action hunting rifle, or do you want to be well equipped to hold bastogne through winter? The choice is yours, but the correct choice is obvious.

We love to talk reliability around here. Well, the ol war horse has got it in spades. Run out of ammo? No problem. The M1 was designed from jump street to be a blunt weapon once out of ammo. You can beat the moose to death with it. Lost your boat anchor? No problem, chunk the ol m1 over the side with a rope through one of the 29 attachment points. Happen to run across a beautiful woman on the trail with an eye for a man of fine tastes? Prepare to be dragged back to her cave.

So Mr OP, you can do the lame thing and get some kinda plastic toy 6mm match bullet dart gun or you can get a weapon with a world war victory on its resume.

300 Weatherby if you want a super big 30 cal. Or 30-378 to really get it moving. Functionally they don’t do anything more than the ole winny, but they are more velocity for 3-4x the cost

more velocity for 3-4x the cost

This is the attitude we need more of around here. Bigger! Faster! Louder! MORE HORSEPOWER!!!!

Sure, featherweight 6mm's with printed titanium suppressors and rokscopes works, but can they peel the tin off the roof at the shooting range and blow your neighbor's shit everywhere? NO! Does a .30-378 with a 4 port brake give you that? YES!

Again, the choice is obvious. One of these goes "fwooop and punches little bitty holes in things and makes you ask the spotter if that was a hit or not. The other goes KKKAABLLLLLOOOOOOOMMMMMMM and breaks plate hangers and shakes the nails loose in the shooting house and sets the grass on fire under the muzzle.

Don't follow the crowd.

If I ever draw my tag in Idaho it’s a 80lb Mathews lift but I’ll have my Henry’s 45/70 strapped to my pack just in case. I do own a very nice 300 win but I wanna get up close for my once in a lifetime tag if I can.

There is certainly something to be said for touching off a 30 cal magnum and watching the destruction down range
