New Mexico unit 45 archery

I'm heading out to the Pecos Wilderness in September to see if I can get within bow range of a bull elk. Anyone here have experience in the Pecos? First elk hunt and first time in the Pecos. I'm excited, but want to make sure I have the best game plan possible. Any advice/wisdom about hunting here would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you coming from? It is some beautiful country! I would start near elk mountain or the old burn area and then go into the wilderness. The lakes get a lot of hikers, so advice is stay away from those areas. Good luck!

Coming from Central TX, though I lived near Mora for a short time many years ago. Beautiful part of the country for sure. Thanks for the advice!
