Hey guys. Longtime lurker, first-time poster.
I’m a Colorado resident and I’ve mostly been playing the short game out here and burning my points to deer hunt every other year or so, but this year I decided to mix it up and applied in New Mexico. I ended up drawing my third choice tag for Unit 21 (Nov 14–18).
I really like the look of the country and love the idea of putting in the work to find a deer, but I haven’t been able to turn up much recent, high-level information on how that unit has been hunting, besides the general harvest data.
Just hoping for some VERY GENERAL feedback from folks who may have hunted it recently. More than anything, I’m trying to figure out whether it’s worth committing the time to head down and hunt it hard, or if I’d be better off staying in Colorado (I think I know what most folks will say!) and/or chasing a leftover tag depending on how our draw shakes out, or burning my deer points in Wyoming this year. Hoping I'll be able to find the time to get down there a scout a bit, but also planning to lean on my CO experience in similar terrain types when preparing for the hunt.
Appreciate any perspective or thoughts. Hope I'm doing this right!
