New Mexico Elk Guide Recommendation

It seems most on this forum are DIY guys (as am I), but I’m looking to book a rifle or muzzleloader hunt with my dad this year. I am thinking about New Mexico for three reasons... one I’ve never hunted it, two my dad has zero points in any state out west so NM no point system gives us as good of a shot as any for drawing a tag, and three if we don’t draw we could still get a landowner tag.

I have reached out to Triple C Outfitters and Hunt Hard Outfitters... anyone have experience with either of these guys?

We aren’t looking to shoot a giant... frankly any bull would do and my dad would probably be stoked with a cow. He does have some back issues (still pretty active and hunts regularly, but in Ohio not the Rocky Mountains) so I’m looking for an easier hunt for him.

Any recommendations for guides in NM would be appreciated. I’m still open to other states as well.

Thanks.

I hunted with Hunt Hard Outfitters this past season. I would hunt with Jeff again in a heartbeat. Reason I chose him over some others is he didn't fill me with everything I "wanted" to hear about the hunt. Told me what to realistically expect. Feel free to shoot me a pm and we can talk more about him or some others I would have gone with. Or also suggest who not to go with ha.
My biggest suggestion is to ask who your guide will be in the field. There are some good outfitters, but the important part of your hunt is with the guide. A good crew will allow you to even talk to the guide himself before you book. Anyone can provide you someone to hold your hand, but not every guide has the experience in the unit or truly knows how to consistently kill mature bulls.....
Good luck

If your in the Gila, I highly recommend Matt Ellis of Borderland Outfitters. Specialises in horseback hunts in the Gila (16b/16c). Ive hunted with him several times.

Call Brian at Top Notch Outfitters. He has a professional outfit in south central NM with lots of quality private land and quality elk. There are multiple places your dad can navigate and hunt on. His guides are knowledgeable, professional and downright good guys.

PM me for more info.

I drew 16 D early archery as a non resident. I called Jeff and seems like a stand up guy and like u said he was very honest about what to expect. Would you have any other info on Jeff? He’s probably my top choice right now. I’ve reached out to a few others as well
