you as well, I have done a ton of research and talked to a few aquantences that hunt the area, ill be more than happy to share once I can send a PM. I also have a pretty good relationship with the LE and game wardens usually as I am in that field here in Illinois. They usually dont lead me astray....usually ; )
That would be awesome I would greatly appreciate any help or pointers you can provide. I been doing a lot of research also trying to see if I can get out there For a weekend or sometimes to get a lay of the land. I have quite a few areas of interest per E scouting but that never does it justice

I don’t see a reason not to take the sxs. If you get a season with wet weather, you’ll want it. Every time I’ve hunted 2B, we’ve gotten a slashed tire also, but I haven’t been there in quite a long time. Worth it just for the wear on your truck. If you plan on camping, the sxs can get you closer to your hunt area than a truck can.
I’ve decided to bring it along. I don’t see any downside from it other than having to pull a trailer. I’d prefer not to beat up my pick up since it’s my way home. My poor wife already has to put up with enough for my shenanigans. I don’t need to add any more to it. 😂

Hey,

I was wondering how your hunt went. I drew this tag this year for second rifle. Any unexpected surprises, or surprises for that matter haha.
I have the same tag as you do this year. Ill be coming from SW WI. I will be doing a solo hunt. Good luck!

It went pretty good. Shot a nice one from the road. Easy unit to hunt.

You guys that draw this tag are dang lucky! I hunted it a lot as a kid growing up with a lot of misses on some monster bucks. Both with a rifle and a bow. No range finders in those days. It’s been 23 years since I’ve had a mule deer tag in my own state.

That’s my plan. that way I can be close to my hunting area and not have to pay for a hotel and drive so far every morning.

I had the January Archery tag about 10 years ago and stayed at the casino in Dulce. It was nice having a hot shower at night but that drive sucked. Between all the elk on the highway and the snow it made for a long day. Wish I would have just taken the wall tent.

Yes a hot show is nice. But a few extra hours of sleep is too !

You would be much better off bringing a wall tent and stove with you. Staying in Bloomfield or Aztec would be nice but it will turn into a long drive twice a day. The hotel below the dam is an option but there is only two places to eat there and they aren’t open all the time. Dulce is still a little ways to go and you will have to deal with a lot of elk and snow. I’ve driven back and forth many times on late archery hunts, rifle hunts, and late cow elk hunts. It gets old really, really fast. A lot of wasted time and loss of sleep starts to take its toll.

Do you happen to know the name of the hotel? Is there usually snow in November?

It used to be called Abe’s motel and fly shop. I think the family has sold one side of the business so I don’t what it’s called now. I should know this off the top of my head cause I drive by there a lot. 🤣 There usually isn’t much snow in November and
Most of the time none at all. However, I’ve been on hunts in November when it’s dumped 14” in 6 hours. Just be prepared for it and if there is no snow then no problem. Always be prepared for the snotty roads if it rains or snows. Also, there could be more snow in Dulce than in 2b around the lake.

Thanks. I think I heard that is closed, or at least the hotel part?? Guess I'll be ready for any kind of weather! From Wisconsin, so should have it covered!
