Probably should have been more specific. In my head I have "better units" as opposed to "top tier." I always apply early archery as well which has helped a bit...actually it hasnt helped at all lol...just slightly better odds.
Yes, first season does have more tags and slightly better odds. But yeah, none of the top tier ones have odds that high. I always apply for Top Tier and hope for the best. Tagged out 2-3 hunts and missed 2 times the year i didnt tag. Its awesome if you ever get to go. LO tags are out of this world expensive now.

Theres more than you might think.
I have looked at a few of those 8-10% draw odd units. Very tempted to try them, but i always end up not doing it when the time comes. lol

Got mine in as well. Last year was first year to apply in New Mexico and was able to pull a Gila tag. 🤞 for 2 years in a row.

I will put my app in about 1 week prior to deadline. This will be my 5th yr applying to NM. Never have drawn. Changing my strategy this year. Instead of going for 2 top tier tags and one middle tag, I'm going to go for 3 middle of the road ones. All have about a 10% chance of drawing. Not great, but better than 1%. I just want to hunt elk in NM. Any tag is fine with me.

Good luck to all, hoping I have the best luck of coarse.. I drew last 16a last year and hands down was the best elk hunt I’ve ever had tagging out on day 9.. I had put in 3 years previous to that with no dice. I’m putting my 16yo daughter in with me this year if we don’t draw then I’ll head to my usually OTC in Colorado

I went in to Edit my Deer apps last night, no dice.
Was thinking you could Edit. Guess not.
I'm still good with my original app. no worries.

Waiting til closer to the draw as I don't need to loan them my $ any longer. Should draw a WY tag so probably only applying for top tier NM units for me that are worth losing my job over if I need to take the time off (only sorta kidding...)

Good luck to everyone who applied units/hunts that aren't the ones I'm putting in for. ;D

I was going to wait until late next week to submit my application but I got antsy. Maybe I'll get lucky this year.

When you delete an application they'll refund the cost of the tag you paid when you applied, but not the application fee, which is $7 for residents. Not sure what the non-resident application fee is.

I'm new to this forum and was i am doing some research before i turn in my application. I noticed the success rates in unit 17 for 1st split archery went from 32% in 2017 to 7% in 2018. Was curious if anybody has hunted this unit recently and why there was such a drop? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
