Hey all, New member here and glad to be here. I've learned a lot from you all and hope I can contribute as well.

I just got a Tikka T3x compact in 7mm-08

I did modify it a bit, here's what I did

Got the aftermarket vertical grip

Added A Backstop recoil pad (came highly recommended by a friend)

Replaced the plastic floorplate with the an aluminum one from High Desert Rifle Works

Going to keep the factory stock.

I'm going to top it with a Leupold VX III 1.75 X 6 X 32mm using lightweight Talley base and rings

Again, glad to be here!

Greg

Hello, I do have have several scopes. The one I'm going to use is the Leupold I mentioned above.

Thanks!

Welcome to the slide. Enjoy that Tikka it might be your first one but it won't be your last. ;) I also agree with the comment from ResearchinStuff to check out the scope evaluations. It's an eye opener for sure.

Nice choice sir! If your scope ever gives you a hard time, SWFA seems to be a bullet proof and economical option. I just set up two new Tikkas with 3-15 SWFAs and couldn’t be happier. I am sure I will get a wild hair up my butt at some point, but as for now I am planning to roll with these setups until it is time for my dirt nap.

Thank you all for your warm welcome! Very much appreciated.

I'm always open to suggestions, so I'll check out the scope evaluation

Stay well all!

Greg

Skip the Talley base and rings. The tikka has the integral dovetail on the receiver so use that - there are two options:
1) Unknown Munitions Tikka rings - these are the premium option
2) Sportsmatch

These rings mount directly to the receiver which equates to a lower scope height potential and less parts to get loose.

Now, few things if you do indeed keep that tikka stock. These simple modifications can and will aid accuracy.

1) free float barrel all the way back to the action so that you can slide 2 index cards without any resistance.
2) pillar bed the stock. You do have the aluminum bottom metal which should help with the action screws pulling through, but the pillars wouldn't hurt. I used SS tubing I had at the house, but lots use these lamp nipples.

Congrats on the new, very nice rig. I think you'll be more than happy with it. I've had 7 Tikkas dating back to the late '90's and they've all performed great. I've never done anything to them other than a Limbsaver pad upgrade, no fancy springs, bedding, rings, etc. Set that thing up and go shooting, you'll love it. Fantastic cartridge choice as well.
