Hi guys. I am a new member, so just want to say I'm happy to be joining this community. BTW, I reside in northeastern Nebraska.

Here is my question: I put in for Colorado Unit 49 archery this year, and I am trying to find the stats for Unit 49 to see what my chance is to draw as a nonresident. The DOW changed it's site, and I cant find where to locate application stats, and number of available tags, etc.

Also, I was wondering if the number of preference points needed has crept up in all units, or if 49 has become that much more sought after.

My Colorado 49 past history is that in 2007 I drew a 49 archery tag with 1 preference point. If I recall, I had a 60% chance to draw, and was fortunate.

In 2010, I drew a tag with 2 points, but don't remember the numbers.

Last year I was unsuccessful, with 2 points. IN 2014, (this year) I applied with 3 points. Can anyone tell me what my chances are as a nonresident ? What were the number of nonresident applications in GMU 49 last year, and how many nonresident tags were sold for the unit. What was the harvest success rate.

If anyone could direct me via a link, or even just state your opinion, I would be very grateful.

Not sure of the exact area but use the search bar on the DOW site. It should come up if you put the right words into the search. Good luck.

I pulled the stats for either sex archery for non-resident in 49. Last year it shows that 34 tags were given to non-resident in unit 49, and of those 34 this was the point breakdown- 2 people had 9, 1 person had 7, 4 people had 6, 4 had 5, 5 people had 4 points (16 tags gone so far) and 18 people had 3 points which brings the total tags to 34 (all of the NR tags). Obviously things can change year to year but generally not for the better, so I'd say your minimum to draw would take 3 points if you put in for an either sex tag. If more folks put in the for the unit than last year, you're not guaranteed a tag with 3 points. If less folks put in or burned PP on it last year and have none this year- you stand a pretty good shot at getting one.

The statistics page is located at : http://cpw.state.co.us/thingstodo/Pages/Statistics.aspx#elk

You'll need to open the hunt recap and the drawing summaries pages- look at the summary to show how many non-resident tags were given for a unit, and then the hunt recap page to show the number of people at each # of preference points. Add up the total number of people until it reaches the number of total NR tags and whatever number you're at is the number that would roughly be required to draw.

Welcome to Rokslide!

Ya, they changed the website and just like everything else in this world......they didn't make it any better, and actually made it more difficult to navigate than it used to be. What's wrong with people today. And it's not just government.

Thank you everyone for the help, and mAv, thanks for the welcome. Based on last year, I would say, I probably have no better than a 50/50 chance.

Can someone explain why someone would bank up to 10 points, and then put in for a unit like 49 they could have drawn a few years earlier? Did they give up on a unit they had been banking points for. Has 49 become more desirable? I know a couple pretty nice bulls were taken the last two years in the unit, but my guess is they were unusual, and that the unit has not improved as much as the popularity. Are guys giving up on getting enough points for their first choice.

Hard to explain anyone's mindset, but from looking over the stats pages I've even seen people use 16 points to draw a 0-1 point unit. Not sure if they are mistakes in applications or what, but what a waste of points.

Not to hijack but if someone had 16 points and applied to a 0-1 point unit, they'd lose all their points if drawn for that unit?

Yeah the point total thing is not worth putting too much thought into, you never know what happened- someone filled out the application wrong, someone doesn't understand the point system (no idea how if you have that many points, but who knows) - someone gives up- there are a ton of things and no one will ever really know why I guess.
