I'm a 33 year old from Alabama who loves big game hunting. I tagged along with my brother when I was 12 or 13 on some whitetail deer hunts, but I didn't start hunting until I was 16. I met some new friends that were very into chasing whitetails and soon I was hooked. I started hunting turkeys a few years later and then my interest turned to the species of the west in the mid 2000's. I tried planning hunts for elk/mule deer with friends but everyone kept backing out. I took the plunge solo in '08 for mule deer in Nebraska. I had to skip '09, Wyoming and Nebraska mule deer in '10 and Nebraska mulies every year since. During my Wyoming trip in 2010 I saw some bighorn sheep for the first time in real life. That was all it took for me to develop a deep interest in hunting those monarchs of the mountains. I didn't understand the draws and unfortunately I missed the application season for 2011 and even the early ones in 2012. I have since been applying in 9 of the 11 western states for some or all of the following species: deer, elk, antelope, mountain goat, moose and especially sheep!
I haven't drawn any limited entry tags yet but I've only been applying for the very best units, points only or trophy species. I'm planning an OTC elk hunt in CO this fall to get some experience chasing elk and to just be in the mountains. I love talking about hunting and I am starting to get serious about backpacking gear. I've been on here a few times just reading posts but I'm looking forward to talking with some of you guys and gals that are more experienced than me and to help those with less experience.
