Hi everyone. New member. I'm in Phoenix area. I have a late season archery bull elk tag in AZ Unit 23 this year. Been scouting. Lots of miles and days hiking. Hunted muley's during summer OTC recently. Saw tons of doe's and only a couple small bucks. So struck out this summer. Have winter OTC to try again... A cool mushroom pic while hunting. I ate it. Saw a leprechaun later. The two facts are unrelated. ;) Good luck everyone on this year's hunts! wht mtns august.jpg

That's an Amanita Muscaria commonly known as Fly agaric. Not an edible. Probably won't kill you but the hallucinations would not be worth the explosive diahrrhea, vomiting and chance of liver failure.

I'd definitely have not risked eating one. The only mushroom I've ever picked and eaten is morels; which we hunted every spring in Ohio- where I grew up.

I grew up in MO hunting morels. I've been in the EV of AZ 15 years now and during the summer I go up to the White Mountains and search for chanterelles, boletes, lobster, oyster and caesar mushrooms.

Welcome.

I have the same tag. It’s a tough hunt but very doable

Glass, thick steep sanctuaries, and dont be opposed to sit water. Hard hunt but no hunting pressure. Good luck.
Thanks! That's my plan. I have a tree saddle I will use in mornings on some water I found, that is NOT on OnX or G-earth, trying to catch elk on way back to bedding areas after sunrise. Then I'll go to glassing later in day. Did 5 days of scouting (during two different trips) in area I chose. We'll see... I'm a rookie- first elk hunt. A friend of mine is an experienced elk hunter with several huge bulls under his belt, will be joining me Sat or Sunday this week. He's 75. He's got the knowledge but can't hike much given his current health. We'll see. I'm thankful for the company at camp and his advice. Being new I don't care if I take a smaller bull. I'm not going to be picky.
