Purchased the new Leopold RX5000 rangefinder and have used it in the field/mountain. Here are some thoughts for those thinking about buying it that I wish I knew ahead of time. Cost was about $699 plus tax. Came with a rangefinder case, battery, tripod holder for rangefinder, lanyard, and directions. Some cons I immediately noticed was hard to handhold and putting the dot on an animal quickly, very shaky for me. The 8 power is not for close range or archery shots and the glass is clear but nothing like my Leica 2400R harder to see in low light pulling it out on deer and finding it in low light quickly at close range was difficult. Definitely not made for Archery. I emailed them and asked which mode I should use for archery and there expert replied back saying that I should disable the Trig mode and use LOS for archery. This is completely wrong information and can't believe there expert had this recommendation. He also said they don't recommend using this under 150yards. You can't use LOS for archery you need the horizontal range which is what the Trig mode supposedly gives you but only for a second on the top and then goes away. There is no archery mode. Like I said the Trig mode flashes the horizontal range up top quickly and gives you the LOS range down below. The click on the rangefinder is extremely loud and an animal will hear it at close range in my opinion. The pin feature is great but has its problems. You first have to pull up the Leopold app and click pin next and then the next thing you range will automatically pin on on x, but here's the catch. You can't be near your bino harness or phone that has magnets or it won't work. You have to be away from all of that but when it works it really works good. The modes are all very easy to toggle through. The red in the rangefinder seemed hard to see at times in bright light in my opinion. This thing is made for rifle hunting the mil and moa mode and cds mode are great. I definitely recommend this for the long range rifle hunting. But it's almost unusable for archery. The perfect combination would be having this for longer rifle shots and having the full draw 5 for archery. But I'm not made of money and want something that does it all for $699. Plus there is only a 2 year warranty on the rangefinder which is a joke in my opinion. I have decided to order the sig 5k which has it all. Including archery mode so I will trying that out and see what I think. Plus a lifetime warranty. Overall was not impressed with it.

I can't speak to use for archery, but I had one and returned it. I mainly wanted it for getting good dialing info for longer shots and also for the pinning feature with OnX. I agree using the pinning is cumbersome.

The unit considers cartridges in various groups using only a 200 yard zero. I received an incorrect reply form tech support about my use of 100 yd zero. I lost confidence in the support after that.

I returned it and got a Sig, which works much better for dialing when paired with the Applied Ballistics Lite in the Sig BDX app.
