NEW Leica CRF MAX with Customizable HUD via Leica App

Almost, we have a few samples out to writers. Thank you.
Just purchased one! I run a rangefinder pouch with a magnet closure. Is it ok to use this with the new rangefinder or should I find one without? I’ve heard a magnet will mess with the compass and ballistic hardware

Storing the unit in my bino harness while hunting and 25% of the time it became non responsive where a button push wouldn’t Que the screen to come on, in fact it like “locked out” where no matter what buttons were pushed the screen wouldn’t come on. Had to remove the battery compartment cap and re screw it in to get it to work. It’s up to date on firmware and Bluetooth update. I’ve replaced the battery 2x on this hunt and it does it with fresh ones as well

Hunting with two profiles (partners 30-06, and my 300PRC) somehow the unit switched profiles or defaulted to something else in the battery compartment open close solution to the non responsive screen because I missed a deer when it gave me the either other profile or some default shot inputs (the Leica AB+ binos have some .308 175 smk default). Real crap that it doesn’t show which profile is being used on the screen in the LRF.

I only figured it out because I ranged a bush 10yards away and then double tapped the second button and saw the terminal velocity was 2640 fps or something when it should have been ~3000. (I verified before stepping off the profile was my 300PRC the morning of the miss because I would range something 10-15 yards away and look at the velocity as this is the only way to verify without hooking up blue tooth and checking on your phone.) It gave me over 3.0 mills of elevation and it should have been 2.3. I hooked my phone backup and it showed the correct profile as “active” ranged the same bush and saw 3005fps terminal velocity. wtf ranged the exact spot the deer was again and it showed 2.3 mills at the same yardage

The sinking feeling of an equipment issue driving a miss on an Idaho mule deer made me want to throw this thing down the mountain.

This has the potential to be great with the screen adaptability but major issues lead to frustration on the mountain and loss of trust when I really need something to work. If this was a sheep hunt or moose I’d be devastated.

Will this rangefinder have an “archery” mode to accurately give cuts in steep country?
I keep wishing we will see this in all high end rangefinders as far as I know Fulldraw 5 and Sig Kilo series are only ones that do. Sig 8K with archery mode is still pretty sweet but this new one looks awesome.

@awesymoto

Does your rangefinder pouch have magnetic closure? Have there been any other times it has messed up?

I was looking at buying one in the next few days, however nearly everywhere seems to be OOS. I find myself wondering if there's a problem with the unit OR demand has been very high...

It is preferred that you use something without a magnet, because it will mess with the compass—across all brands, not just Leica. I'll run my RF on a side pouch without a magnet, further away from my main bino harness pouch.

Robby, for some reason these posts aren't pinging me via email....Otherwise, we would have answered these sooner. Apologies.

Well guess I'm returning my Kilo 6 and upgrading
What question can we answer for you? Apology, for some reason, comments haven't been pinging me in the normal way for Rokslide.

Why has @Leica and everyone else stopped talking about this RF?
For some reason, I haven't been getting pinged on these comments. Do you have a specific question? I've gone through all the comments to supply answers. Thank you.

Will the CRF pro have the ability to drop points on OnX or will that just be the new max?
It depends on whether you have an Elite Subscription from OnX. If so, the CRF Pro will work to drop a "Waypoint" or "Raypoint" is what the cool kids are saying.... We have a full list of products on the OnX Page for reference: https://www.onxmaps.com/hunt/app/features/connected-hunting-optics

  • Leica binoculars: onX syncs with several Leica binocular models, including:
    • 8 x 32 Geovid Pro
    • 10 x 32 Geovid Pro
    • 8 x 32 Geovid Pro, Green
    • 10 x 32 Geovid Pro, Green
    • 10 x 42 Geovid Pro AB+
    • 8 x 42 Geovid Pro
    • 10 x 42 Geovid Pro
    • 8 x 42 Geovid Pro Orange
    • 10 x 42 Geovid Pro Orange

go to the top of the thread, lead post and look at Watch/Unwatch button. If it shows Unwatch, click it. give a few seconds then see if the Watch button appears. If it does, click it, and choose "receive email notifications..."

If that doesn't work, you've got my email.

I'd check out https://www.marsupialgear.com/, they've got several options without magnetic closure for the bino harness or pouches

We have "EHR" mode, which allows for angle compensation, especially at closer ranges—I've been using it for years in archery, and it works great. Yes, there are more advanced archery ballistic solvers out there, and whether they significantly impact hunters on big-game targets is unknown. If you're shooting in Vegas tournaments, then you'd be keen on a ballistics solver. Precision Cut Archery and Archer's Advantage are both solid programs to get everything dialed before the rangefinder. https://www.archersadvantage.com/ https://www.precisioncutarchery.com/

Hi folks, Hamilton Boykin from Leica here. I just became aware of this thread and wanted to post on here about the issue.

1) Magnets and ferrous metal objects will affect compasses, so we always recommend non-magnetic closures on harnesses.
2) In October,we started hearing about the issues Awesymoto described, and we released a firmware update not long after the date of his post. I have DM'd him to confirm, but hopefully his issue was resolved.
3) I have had no reports of this problem for any Max owner running current software since.
4) Regardless, if anyone ever has an issue with a Leica product's performance, they can email me directly at [email protected] and I will be happy to help.

To any Leica users who read this, THANK YOU for your business; we really appreciate it!

@Leica I was really excited when I first came across this offering, the other Leica RF's I have had in the past had been stellar. I left Leica for the Sig2400ABS and haven't had a desire to replace it until now. That being said I have been very surprised there hasn't been more internet buzz on the unit, no "influencers" on Youtube with product testing and demo's, just seems that's how most things launch these days.
I'm in, excited to put it through the paces, the Sig certainly has it's downsides and I expect this to be superior. Thank you

@JGRaider

For whatever it's worth I've been a long time leica rangefinder user. I've used them exclusively for more than a decade now updating as most of the newer models have come out. I've had a couple issues that have overwhelmingly been my fault. (Bino harness fell out of a truck got hung up by the door and drug for more than a mile.)
Leica has been incredible with warrantying their products. I've had one other issue that I sent it back in for and they took care of that too. I can't even remember what it was. You shouldn't have any concerns of @Leica honoring their warranty and standing behind their product.

I've been tempted by some of the other offerings from SIG and revic but I have so much confidence in my leica rangefinder to work when I need it that it's hard to convince myself to use anything else. They just seem like they're better made last longer and have less issues.
