New Kimber Mountain Ascent 799 bucks

What’s the barrel diameter at 16”? It couldn’t get a Kampfeld job done?
You could do a belled adapter like that for a shoulder. Kampfeld likely goes 1/2-28 before installing and reprofiling the adaptor to match the barrel. Ian’s saying there’s not enough thickness in the barrel to go 5/8 directly.

Best you're going to get is 1/2. At 16.25" the barrel still isn't big enough to accept 5/8 threads, regardless of shoulder needs.

I've got a shorty 338 Fed that really created a predicament...because the barrel OD was too small for 5/8 and bore too big for 1/2...ended up at 9/16 with a silver soldered bushing, and we're cookin' with gas now.

Definitely want to go with a dialed in smith on these just to minimize tolerances, Karl is obviously one of those.

Has anyone gotten a chance to shoot their mountain ascent yet? How’s the accuracy? Are you able to shoot good 3-5 shot groups without cooling the barrel down?

Picked up my Mojave today--it's really not much to look at, but the ergos and weight are phenomenal.

On a sidenote, does anyone know the dimensions/thread pattern on the (blind) front trigger screw on a Montana? I picked up a spare stock and trigger guard just in case I want to make a conversion out of this or a Hunter in the future, but I need the front screw that comes in from the top to secure the trigger guard.
You need to call Kimber directly. All 4 Montana generations have various trigger guard screw lengths, but same thread pattern.

They'll ask you if you have battleship smooth, rough, moss, or seal gray. That'll tell them what length screw is compatible.

Or just go long and use a dremel 🤣

On my way to ACE hardware with trigger guard in hand; gonna plug and play until I find something, then Dremel go brrrrr later as needed…

I’ve shot 10 round groups out of my 6.5 Hunter without any cooling. Usually about 1.2-1.4” depending on heat mirage.
Considering the pencil barrels, not bad at all! I’ve been on the fence, if 6.5 or 7-08s become available again I’m getting there.
