New Kimber Mountain Ascent 799 bucks

What length did you cut it down to? I have one and thought about 20” threaded to put a can on it. Mine is crazy accurate with 285gr and it’s a fun gun to slam animals into the ground.
Went 20” and threaded 5/8-24. Had him re drill and tap for the front iron sight but removed the irons. Used plug screws in them and kept irons off to cut some more weight as I’ll never honestly use them. It really helps with the balance a lot and makes it feel way more handy/swing better. Highly recommend the chop on it I mean yes a 375hh doesn’t get ballistics like a 375 Ruger does with a short barrel but no animal will ever notice the small difference.

Sounds like we need to start a Kimber Addicts Anonymous group.

If any wives give you boys a hard time about your recent Mountain Ascent purchase, simply show her this photo and say "see, at least I'm not like this guy"

Works every time, 60% of the time.

Ok boys, looking for advice/suggestions. I picked up a 6.5cm and .308 and I’m going to chop one of them. Which one and how short should I go?

Chop the 6.5 to 18.

New +Peak ammo and an OTB can is gonna be one bad mama jama, that's what I'm doing with mine

If anyone needs mockups of what different lengths look like, hmu. Mine go from 16.25 to 24" with everything in between

6.5 Creedmoor: Cut and thread at 16.5 inches. You'll thank me later.
.308: Rebarrel with an 18-inch .22 Creed or SBR it and go 12.5 inches. That would be handy rifle.

The 6.5 hasn’t shown up to the FFL yet but the 243 got my attention too, so now I’ll have two guns from this batch of deals. A couple hundred Hornady 100gr btsp I have sitting around will get put to good use. If I’m feeling froggy I might try some 105bthp in the 1:10 just for grins.

I got several inbound as well. Keep talking myself into them as they pop up.
I'll be specifically in trouble if a 243 comes back 😬 <—— started typing this yesterday. Here we are today and 243 is back 🤦🏻‍♂️

Only thing pausing me is the 1:10 barrel. Thoughts?

Update:

Picked mine up from the FFL today.

The Good: The gun looks sweet and the stock is waaayyyyy better than the standard stock. Interestingly, the bottom metal mag fits 5 for me, so that's sweet. Trigger feels good, once I get it setup ready to shoot I'll see if I want to lighten it any.

The Meh: The bolt is nowhere near as smooth as my Kimber Hunter, but still fine.

The Unfortunate: They must have taken a page out of Kifaru's book with their weight spec, mine is 5lb 15oz with the bolt in. It hits their weight spec of 5 lb 6oz with the bolt removed.....why the hell would you do that? I don't think it matters, it's going to be a "Mrs." Rifle primarily, with me occasionally (maybe more than that...) using it as well.

I'm really excited to see how it shoots. The way it holds is a significant improvement with an admitted significant weight penalty.

Dude the things you can do with an 87 grain Berger hunting VLD at 3200 FPS are obscene.

90 ELDX doesnt suck either.

…and I already have those. Would make my ARC kinda pointless/ sellable. This is falling into the “by now, sort out later” territory. Holding out for a 6.5 with the new +peak development is tempting too
