I would think that with no point system, and the price tag, that it will decrease the amount of apps in the next few yrs....but common sense seems to go outside the window with tag sales so probably the opposite will occur

Yeah, who knows...but my guess after looking at all of the other options- including $19,000 LO tags in the Gila- my bet is a lot of guys will roll the dice with $185 in Idaho.

Imo With guys needing to buy a license so they can apply for the general quota tags they will definitely apply for the controlled hunts. The non resident odds for a controlled hunt are about to plummet. They need to just be integrated together.

Also the # of guys who live close to the border in surrounding states and come to Idaho to hunt waterfowl/ upland is going to really jump. Guys like to get some use out of a license.

Both are very good points. Probably going to see more NR's in the Chukar hills. It will be interesting to see how many folks draw a MF or Selway tag on the fifth choice and pick it up.

Yeah, if it had to change, I would have rather they do a complete upfront charge and refund (minus app fee) to the unsuccessfuls, like they do for OIL. The reason I would have rather seen this is that I think it would have resulted in fewer applicants for the April OIL and the June deer-elk-pronghorn draws. However, I don't believe IDFG will ever switch to complete upfront charge for deer and elk. In their media releases, they are really pushing the April and June draws as a benefit of buying a license. It won't affect me since I'm a resident, but I think the number of NR applicants in those draws will skyrocket and NR draw odds will go way down.

Yes but you have to turn in your general tag before they send you the controlled tag if you draw. Check out the out of state hunter podcast with Tara Reichert, IDFG License Ops Mgr.

Those zones have been selling out in recent years also right? Just not day one?
