Hi, new guy from the Richmond, VA area. I’ve hunted most of my life in Va, Ok, and Co. Most of my hunting is done in Va now days but get the chance to go back out west every few years.

Quick question. Do the VA guys ever do any kind of group hunt?

No one has suggested it yet. What did you have in mind?

I was thinking a weekend in the mountains to start. Probably truck camping. Would be interested in doing different areas, maybe have someone local to the area set it up and lead the hunt. Public land hunts I think would be great.
For those in the east they only have wmas for public land but I have taken a lot of deer from wmas.
It doesn’t have to be just deer either.

I’m in Albemarle county as my home base, but my family has a farm out in Tazewell County. I’m certainly interested in some public land hunting closer to home, at some point. And I might be down for a trip into the woods closer to my farm. I’ve wanted to go back into Beartown at some point.

Welcome aboard. Near Damascus here. Used to backpack in to hunt Mt Rogers NRA solo but age has made that less of a option.

Me neither, but I’ve heard good things it, both fishing and hunting. From my understanding the area you need a 4x4 to get to is the best for both.

It should only be about 45 months from you. On the other side of 64 there is a lot of public land to hunt. It can be over hinted though.

I’m not sure I have 45 months free for travel.

I do need to investigate the public land options a bit more, but when I went to the orientation for one of the Albemarle County WMAs, it was super crowded and it took me about an hour to get there, just due to how the roads are laid out. If I have to drive that far, I might as well do the 3.5 hour drive to the farm to hunt my own land. I can do that the night before, spend some time with my dad, hunt in solitude all day, and be back home the next night. Or work from his house for a few days.
