New guy from VA/MD

Lurker for a while, but registered several months ago. This place really is a wealth of info, and I have learned a lot.

First year hunting with my son. Live in VA, but have a tract of private land to hunt in western Maryland. Got my first deer the last day of rifle season. Looking to take a travel hunting trip (probably guided) in the next few years - maybe somewhere out west.

I look forward to reading and learning more.

Welcome. If you want to hunt out west start now learning your target state's game laws and what it takes to get a tag. Western state hunting laws are very different from eastern state laws. Pronghorn in Wy or bears in northern Idaho may be your best bets for a hunt in the next few years.
