I was lucky enough to draw Nevada Archery Mule Deer Unit 41/42. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I plan to day hunt for at least the first few days until I figure the place out and be prepared to camp deep if needed. I’m going diy solo and this is my first mule deer hunt. I’ve never hunted somewhere this dry before and I honestly don’t know where to start. Everything I’ve seen says deer density is extremely low here. Is this worth trying to look for a guide or stick it out diy?

We hunted it last year and saw less than 10 bucks in 30 days of hunting and scouting from June - August.

There were days where I had a crew of 5 guys out there looking for deer, and we couldn’t find anything.

Some days I didn’t even see a bird!

If you’re traveling far it may be worth reconsidering that unit.

Where are you traveling from?

Coming from Virginia. Dang man that doesn’t sound good at all population wise. I feel like I have to go based on the draw odds. When I applied I didn’t really look at what I applied for, I just knew I wasn’t going to draw and told myself if I did draw then I would hunt it.

I get it man, For non residents, Nevada is great when there are 5+ points. It gets so much easier to draw Some units past that. How many points did you have going into this?

Only one point so I’m not loosing much if I don’t go. Did you scout any down low around farm land borders when you went?

I sure did. We covered the majority of the unit.

There’s barely any farmland in those units. It’s all desert lakebeds, and alkali flats and all we were seeing in the couple pivots were antelope

And I had a guide with me for 5 days. I forgot that I left that part out

That’s wild. Definitely doesn’t seem good density wise. Were any of the bucks you saw decent? Are you confident recommending the guide, if so then could you drop their info?
