Hello, Rokslide. I wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for such a great wealth of information here! I’ve been lurking for about a year, and now that I’m planning my first trip out West, I’ve finally decided to join. I may not be able to share much knowledge, but I’m happy to contribute where I can. My first “introduction” to Rokslide was by stumbling across the infamous “.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose” thread. Skimming through that thread gave me the confidence to harvest a young whitetail doe last season with a 5.56x45. I’ve been hunting my entire life, mostly for whitetail deer in the gulf South, and most of my deer have been taken with a .243 Win. As a teen, all of my free time was spent in the woods year-round, and I still enjoy every opportunity that I get. I’m looking forward to learning more as I continue my journey as an outdoorsman, and I’m enjoying gathering information here and elsewhere as I continue my preparations for my trip out West, hopefully in 2026.
Since everyone likes pictures, here’s the young doe from last season.

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new Gulf South member.

Eddie

P.S. Where is Gulf South? AL, FL, MS?
