New guy from sd

Hi all,

Just wanted to introduce myself. Been lurking around here for a bit, and I like what I see so I think I may stay for awhile.

I grew up in rural SD hunting deer (mostly whitetails, but also some muleys), pheasants, and coyotes. Shot my first deer at 12 with a 222 Rem about 25 years ago—one shot and down in about 10 seconds—so I’ve been a small cal guy from the get go. Nowadays I do prefer something a little bigger. I like the extra wallop. Not for the poor critter down range, but for my shoulder. I think it’s only fair that I feel some pain in exchange for the life I’m taking.

Seriously though, I do like bigger cartridges for bigger game. I know it’s a bit old fashioned, but I feel more confident when I can feel the power of the cartridge through the big boom and the recoil. For full disclosure, I also prefer wood stocks and blued barrels, I don’t have a suppressor, and I prefer calibers that are specified in inches. This is America. I’m pretty sure we invented guns!

I’ll save the rest of my thoughts and views for sharing in the forums later.

Nice to meet you all!

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new SD member.

Welcome! I like the way you think. I too like traditional wood stocks but as I get older I find my self reaching for the lighter and less recoiling rifles
