That’s a pretty big tent for yourself. How much is that and the stove weighing? When it’s that cold and I’m by myself I keep to about a miles range to the truck, which I had to do last weekend.

Went up to D6 a few times this season and saw a few does, but no bucks. I went on my first solo backcountry trip and it dipped into the 20’s overnight. Great experience and I plan to continue getting comfortable with longer solo trips. I know I need to spend a lot of time in an area to nail down the bucks’ habits. Keep at it! My best d zone hunting spots are places I saw bucks in velvet during July while backpacking. They continue to produce year after year. There is a lot of good looking country that does not hold deer. Do a little scouting this summer and you will be miles ahead for the fall

Roughly 6.5 lbs for the tent and stove together. I was about 4 miles from the truck on this one.

Welcome from D5 zone! Nice setup, good for you getting out solo! I pitched out overnight the last two weekends in D6 as well, the stove makes a big difference when the snow begins flying

That’s awesome. I have to get better with the stove and keeping it lit. I gave up on keeping it going overnight, but the 15 degree bag was enough.

@willfrye027 made the best little hint in this thread. For hunting in the sierras, go backpacking in June July and August. Spend time in the country on dedicated backpacking and camping trips. Kills will eventually follow in the Fall.

i hate packing in my SO hot tent solo. weighs around the same 6lb. hot tent is amazing though after a rough day

Enjoy it when I need it. I’ve learned to stuff bigger logs in to keep it going longer. I’m honestly not in love with the style where the sides are the super thin rolled up piece like the Seek Outside u-turn style stove. It’s easy to bend if you don’t set it up perfectly. But it’s fairly light for its size.

lol. It’s been slow but I tagged my first ever big game animal last deer season, and with my bow. The impact of boots on the ground scouting became clear, as I found an area with a few bucks and then killed on opening day in the unit two weeks later.

First elk hunt coming up in Colorado this fall. I’ll be in unit 521 for two weeks

Hell yeah, nice man! For self taught and with archery on public land, that's great. It's no cake walk out here. Were you in a X zone, or still gaining preference points?
