I'm losing over 100 fps from factory specs

That might change your terminal range from something like 800 yards to 750? What would that matter?

Curious would the TA bullet benefit from the DTAC nose ring treatment? I like them due to shooting very well in my 6.5 CM’s. The best and most consistent groups of all factory ammo I’ve used.
I agree they need to expand much more to increase effectiveness.

I'm new to shooting long ranges. Most of my shots are 200 yards and under. I was just curious why the ammo is over 100 fps than stated in the specs. It fluctuates over 40fps in speed variance per round. I was wondering if I am doing something wrong. All speeds are from a new Garmin

For commercially loaded ammo 40fps es ain’t bad. Sometimes you’ll see 100fps variance.

Different barrels shoot different speeds. Some are slower and some faster. Also barrel length matters. Most use a 24” and sometimes 26” barrel for their box reported velocities.

Here is a load from a well known online loader. Notice the spread is 55fps. Not great but doesn’t matter a ton under 4-500 yards.


I wouldn’t chase 100fps if you have a load shooting lights out. Eld-x is a known killer.
