I’m right at a year into my ‘trad journey’ and figured it was time to upgrade from my eBay special TBow riser. My RMS Gear P2P riser came in the mail yesterday and this thing is a definite step up from what I was shooting. What a neat looking riser, and pretty hefty which I like.

I got the 19” version in walnut and drilled for a springy. It’ll be wearing 45# Gobi limbs and a mercury string from Mountain Muffler. Still need to make a decision on a quiver as I’d been using my Tight Spot from my compound on my old riser. I didn’t have time to mess with it much last night so pics to come once it’s all set up.

I plan to contact South or RMS today to find out about recommended brace height but if any of you have messed around with this riser I’m curious to hear what you’ve seemed to like for BH. Can’t wait to get this thing set up and shooting!

I really like the P2P. Heavy which I like and I like the grip. I am at 8" with mine and I am shooting the uukha sx50 which is the "target" limb that is the same as the Gobi. Someone mentioned that Tom Clum was also at 8" with his P2P and Gobi limbs.

The sweet spot for me;
I run my 19" Stalker ILF Riser at 7 7/8" with long Uukhas.

I am assuming my riser has the same limb pocket angle...but maybe not.

For those that shoot a P2P…have you had to order strings shorter than what you would think? Got her all strung up and my new 59” MM string puts my brace height right at 6.5”.

Again…19” riser, medium limbs, 59” string is equaling a 6.5” brace height. Pulled the string and measured to 59 1/16” so it’s not the string

In your alls opinion how much is too much when it comes to putting twists in a string? I’m up to 7 3/4” on my brace height but I’ve really been twisting the string to get there. I’m thinking this bow is going to require a string possibly as short as 58”.

Life’s busy right now so I’m messing with things for a half hour at a time before work right now but it’ll get there. This riser does seem to point like a dream for me though. I’ve been shooting at 15 yards while I mess with this string length/brace height debacle and for just getting used to it I’ve been happy with the way arrows have been stacking.

I have strings with a lot of twists, it's not ideal but I bet many guys can't tell the difference, it has a minimal effect.

The bow will tell you what's the best BH.

Shoot it at different Brace Heights and it will be smoother and quieter at the perfect BH.

Update for those interested. Twisted the string up and started playing. The bow seems to like brace height at 7 7/8”. It took a lot of twists to get there but this thing is shooting. Time and weather has got me bogged down to shooting in the shop but once I got brace height dialed in I went back to 15 yards and shot 3 fletched and one bare shaft and got this. Time to quit tinkering for now and just shoot the piss out of this thing.

I wonder how these vary from a Stalker Apex riser?

IMG_1380.jpegPictured, my 19" Stalker Stickbows ILF riser

I have not been able to compare these side by side....but my guess;
The P2P is probably the same geometry and shape...but it's simpler to build. The rectangular block of G10 is buried in my riser. You can only see it in the limb pockets when you take the limbs off, no visible from the outside.

Seems like the P2P is a block of Micarta or black G10 with wood accents on each side....a much simpler way to assemble.

Do these 19" p2p risers gain more weight or rated weight from the marked weight on the limbs?

I haven’t put either on a scale but it ‘feels’ very similar to my TBow riser. I still haven’t figured out why it requires a much shorter string than normal though.

It depends. Most ILF limbs are weight rated on a 25" riser at 28" DL. Then add, some limbs are rated with the limb bolts a turn or two out, some are with the bolts all the way in.

Someone made up a chart that should help. I'm not sure who to attribute it to- I think it was Jim Casto, good dude on another site

Yeah I'm familiar with the ilf platform. I was more curious at what pocket angle the riser is cut. Some risers are steeper than others and weight gain differs from the norm.

I’ve had both. I bought an apex when they first came out and sold it after a couple of years,so it’s been awhile. I bought a p2p last spring. The apex has hair more deflex I feel, and the limb pad angle is a bit lower on the P2P. It gained about a pound over what I was thinking it would, so nothing crazy.

Did you go to a compound...or are you shooting something else now?

Just curious....

No, still shooting sticks! I was selling like mad the last 18 months or so, had way too many bows. Forcing myself to shoot ilf right now. For longer draws like ours they truly are just easier to tune. Keeping a couple nice woods I can’t part with safe on the hooks for now. I think I may have something for you, I’ll pm ya.

Yeah, thx for the PM.
Can you recall, did the P2P have a different feel vs the Apex riser? Seems like they would be real close.

I flip flopped on a few different risers and many sets of limb combos for a long time. I don't know what I was thinking but I went through a speed phase with light riser/ metal riser/ heavier riser, etc searching for Nirvana I guess. Funny because ALL were good....or are good, I still have a bunch of stuff too.
