My Schnee's beartooth ll arrived over the weekend. I normally wear a 10 1/2 wide in most of my boots/shoes. I went with the recommendation of sizing up 1/2 size for toe room when going downhill. Question is, how much toe room should I have? Wearing a mid weight wool sock I have 1/2-3/4 inch of extra room of front. This is my first pair of boots with such a stiff shank and rubber band bottom so I'm having a hard time deciding on whether or not they fit like they should. Thoughts anyone?

I usually check by leaving the boot unlaced and then slide my foot forward until my toes touch the end and then check how much room I iave at the heel, I like a heavy finger width

First, thank you for your business! So this is unfortunately one of those things that is really up to the individual. Personally, like bmart2622 said, I like a good finger's width of free space. This is about 3/4in or so for me. But I would do what is most comfortable for your feet. We always recommend wearing them around inside first until you know they will fit. If you have access to some stairs inside, I would go up and down them a bunch while really digging in (putting pressure on your foot to move forward). See how that feels. If it's not super comfortable, give us a call. Also, the beartooth usually takes a bit of break-in hiking before it is real comfortable. so keep that in mind.
