I killed a handful of animals with LRHT’s. From 50-800 yards. My muzzle velocities are at 3100fps and I havent seen any issues with the wounds yet personally.Anyone know how the LRHT do as killing bullet? I have a 6SST and have some of the new 116 but these have my interest as well.

Correct me if I’m wrong here @huntnful but haven’t you used a meplat trimmer on the lrht in the past?I killed a handful of animals with LRHT’s. From 50-800 yards. My muzzle velocities are at 3100fps and I havent seen any issues with the wounds yet personally.
I’ve seen subpar performance from the 245 LRHT at 1000ish yards that was started at 2900fps from a buddy though.
I have used a meplat trimmer, but never on the LRHT’s I don’t think. Just used it on the hybrid targets. But my last couple batches of bullets have had pretty nice meplats, so I haven’t been touching them. I just put a drill bit in the tips of the bullets I take on the big game hunts.Correct me if I’m wrong here @huntnful but haven’t you used a meplat trimmer on the lrht in the past?
I know I read a post or thread on here that the meplat on the lrht is almost closed. guys have trimmed it back, opening the tip for more reliable expansion. I could be off base too
That’s it. Thank you for the correction.I have used a meplat trimmer, but never on the LRHT’s I don’t think. Just used it on the hybrid targets. I believe that they don't rely on that "opening" in the tip as a mechanism to start disruption. The nose breaks off to start that process.I'm a little leary of the closed tips getting reliable expansion !
I did some bullet capture testing shooting pork and beef lungs suspended in water with the LRHT 135. Impacts around 2100-2200 fps showed the 135 to be very slow to open compared to all of the other bullets tested. The lungs that were shot with that bullet just showed a small caliber size hole through them which was actually pretty hard to find, but I am going to repeat that test with the 135 to see if I get the same behavior twice. Just need some more pork and beef lungs now.Anyone know how the LRHT do as killing bullet? I have a 6SST and have some of the new 116 but these have my interest as well.

Correct. They don’t “expand”, they deform and then fragment. But the more closed/pointed tip could hinder how fast that actually takes after impact.I believe that they don't rely on that "opening" in the tip as a mechanism to start disruption. The nose breaks off to start that process.
