New Belgium series on Public Land

I’ve gotta say I was a bit shocked at first to see such a popular company supporting a hunter. I already drink fat tire here and there. Guess they’ll get more of my business from now on.

They're a sponsor partner with BHA

"Some big beer brands don’t want to partner with sportsmen’s groups, but not New Belgium. This Fort Collins (and Asheville, NC) based company is employee owned and they care about public lands in a big way. And a lot of their employees are BHA members...like, A LOT of them. They’ve hosted Campfire Stories at their Fort Collins location and their Asheville location. They also helped us in 2019 with our first ever Women in the Woods event. Next time you’re perusing the beer aisle, grab a 6er or New Belgium and take a selfie and tag them and BHA. It’ll show them how much we appreciate them and their partnership. Good to see. I’ve liked Fat Tire for a long time and this is a good reason to buy more.

I suspect this is just camo-washing. New Belgium supports WildEarth Guardians.

“The surprising thing about Craig is that we had only given money to Wild Earth Guardians for very specific healthy watershed projects,” New Belgium spokesperson Bryan Simpson wrote to the Independent.

“We gave no operational funds and did not support – nor were we aware of – any initiatives regarding the coal industry.”

You really think they didn't know who they were donating to? A $10,000 donation to WildEarth Guardians designated for a specific task means WEG has that much more left in their general funds for lawsuits to keep grizzlies and wolves on the endangered list and other anti-hunter activities.

100% of New Belgium's political donations are to anti-2A democrats.

New Belgium makes decent beer, but I choose not to support businesses that I know to be working against my interests.

I think you and I could sit down and drink a Fat Tire or a Banquet, your choice, and agree that broad sweeping positions such as this one lack the nuance we need to push the collective group in the right direction. Does WEG litigate extensively on issues you and I find disagreeable? Absolutely. But does WEG also have some good projects? Absolutely. So throwing the brewer that is doing good work to further hunting interests (directly, I might add) under the buss because through your utilitarian calculus the brewer's $10,000.00 contribution for a discrete purpose indirectly works some broad sweeping disadvantage to "your interests" makes no sense at all. But hey, if you don't like Fat Tire -- more for me.

It’s really sad that no matter what a business does to further a good cause..... it will be torn apart by people who say it’s a fake effort or not enough. This is coming from a business owner. Politics are a bitch and New Belgium is not my beer but I’ll buy a 6 pack for the effort.

Making a video with a rock climber from New York wearing a camo shirt and awkwardly shooting a bow at a turkey target 3 yards away isn’t enough for you??? I mean, they’re basically on the same level as the RMEF now.
What about companies you support that don’t make any effort at all? I think new Belgium is sincere with their explanation about their past donation to weg. They took the time to sit down with the folks in Craig and start a dialogue about what happened. That shows me they care, that they want to understand why people there were upset and also to explain their side too. That happens wayyy too little in today’s world. In today’s world it’s jump all over anyone, any company, any organization that doesn’t align 100% with your views. People like that never accomplish anything, never build relationships with potential advocates, or afford themselves the opportunity to educate those that may have not done the correct thing. Those that respond in a negative fashion every time they feel a company or organization has made a less than “perfect” decision are going to find themselves on a lonely island.

There is nothing wrong with supporting and advocating with companies or groups you don’t align 100% with, when you have a common goal. Conversely there is nothing wrong with opposing a group or company that you would normally support when you don’t agree over an issue. It happens, people don’t agree.

What I find unfortunate is that when a company like new Belgium seems to have taken a positive step in the right direction on public lands, hunting, and getting diverse groups talking...some feel the need to shit all over them. Makes no sense to me.

I don’t care enough about New Belgium’s politics to claim to have known about the “weg” deal before this thread. I’ll drink fat tire when I crave one. Have been doing so for a long time. Went to school in Ft Collins. I’ll also poke fun at their half hearted PR video clip when I get a chance. Wouldn’t read too much into it....
