Maybe you guys can help me out. I've been going off the back of the box to make sure the arrows are the right ones. I feel I'm missing out. How are you guys calculating and choosing inserts and notches making everything perfect?

The gold tip pierce have been very good to me and several others. Damn accurate, plenty heavy and great penetrators. Good luck!

I'm no expert, but learning lot of this stuff with trial and error and paper tuning different combinations, FOC, etc. That's why I like the adjustable weights of the Gold Tip, and evidently Black Eagle has a similar system.

I use On target archery software to build my arrows. If you let me know your specs and what brand type of arrow you are looking for I can help you out.

I shoot overspined arrows, like 250's. Takes all the guess work out of it in most cases and they fly like darts. I don't mind the extra weight either.

These arrows are tough as nails. I've put em through the wringer. I've hit rocks, plywood and all sorts of hard surfaces while target shooting or shooting at squirrels and other small game. They will take a high amount of abuse and it takes a lot to deem them unshootable. Unfortunately they are hard to get a hold of and I do believe that they are no longer in production, but don't hold me to that last statement.

I switched to the black eagle Spartans last year and love them. They shot better than the maxima blues and the Easton fmj. With a well tuned bow field points and slick tricks fly identical. Think I paid $70 for 1/2 dozen.

So I need to get new arrows after breaking a couple. I have been shooting Axis shafts. I would like some opinions on a good hunting arrow. I have been considering the Maxima Reds as their claims of Brodhead accuracy are interesting. I shoot fixed blade heads. One thing I noticed about the Axis is there are some shafts that just won't spin a brodhead true. I believe this may have to do with the insert and the end of the shaft possibly not being cut perfectly square. So is there a better insert system?

maxima reds are great shooting arrow....that is what we shoot personally and we sale the most of. for 2017 maxima red sd have been released for those(including myself) who like the small diameter shafts

I am shooting 340 FMJ's and I'll likely run them through the end of the 2017-18 season but I'll likely be looking to move to a lighter full carbon arrow this time next year.

John Dudley did video on the Maxima Red and debunked their weight forward claims. Front half of arrow was the same weight as the back half. They weren't any more accurate the the Easton Axis he compared them to. You may still be able to find the video.
