So I need to get new arrows after breaking a couple. I have been shooting Axis shafts. I would like some opinions on a good hunting arrow. I have been considering the Maxima Reds as their claims of Brodhead accuracy are interesting. I shoot fixed blade heads. One thing I noticed about the Axis is there are some shafts that just won't spin a brodhead true. I believe this may have to do with the insert and the end of the shaft possibly not being cut perfectly square. So is there a better insert system?

i'm using the Black Eagle "Deep Impacts" which utilizes an outsert. Super consistent spine, a bit heavier at 11.0 gr but I cut the shafts short and 3 fletched them with a 125 gr broad head. 498 gr arrow when all said and done. I'm a 28" draw and I cut these arrow shafts at 26.5.

I too shot the axis but felt I needed a more consistent spine for my fixed blades.

I'm testing out the Carbon Express Maxima Red SD 350 and very happy with them. They are about the same OD as a Easton Axis.

I've used Carbon Express arrows for years. I started using Goldtips about 15 years ago. They're just as good and cheaper. I shoot Thunderhead 100s and haven't had any accuracy issues with them.

Big fan of the gold tip system. The ability to add weights to the insert of a built arrow is very nice.

I hunt in OR and have to shoot fixed blades. Last year I shot Black Eagle Spartans and I'm shooting them again this year. I had a complete pass through on a mule deer at 52 yards and I am still using that arrow.

The carbon express marketing strategy about broadhead flight is all BS and they are overpriced for what you get in my opinion. I would take the axis any day over the carbon express. If you want to build a customer arrow with weighted inserts up front, I would look at Gold Tip Velocities or Black Eagles.

I shot the CE reds last season and was very disappointed. I don't recommend them. I am trying the BE Spartans this year. Have yet to receive them but have heard nothing but good feedback about them.

The HIT insert system is fine, I use HIT's in several different manufacturer's .204" ID arrows. But I would make sure that the ends of your shafts are square, and use the HIT tool to chamfer them. I haven't found a better insert system than HIT's. Been using them for over 10 years now without a single issue, and I punish my arrows.......especially with my 32 1/2" draw.

The Axis are a great hunting shaft, but I did find them to not be quite as accurate as some other similarly spec'd arrows. But we're talking maybe 2" larger groups at 80, which isn't significant for most.

This is why I have one of the G5 ASD tools. I have the shop cut the shafts then I square the ends up with the ASD before I glue in the inserts. It's fairly cheap and gives me good peace of mind to know all the end of my arrows are squared up the same.

Sorry to hijack, but are you using BAR's when you use HIT's?

Axis shooter here. Only problems that I ever had with an axis came from a box store "gift" dozen.

Every one that I bought from a high end archery supply store, (don't know if I can mention a non-sponsor) that spine checks each arrow, has been super and has led to a bunch of animals falling over for me.
