Okay. I am really thinking about purchasing a 6mm GT to get into some of the PRS matches. I currently don’t hand load, and I have never done it, but I have all the stuff to do it. What I do like, is that Hornady offers factory ammo for the 6GT. The two rifles that I am looking at is the Ruger Precision Rifle and the MPA BA PMR. I am really leaning towards the MPA right now. Both are right around where I want to be money wise. Do any of you all have a preference, and why? Is there another caliber that I should consider, and why? What got me on the 6mm cartridge is a Ruger American Gen 2 Predator in 6mm ARC that shoots lights out, and I have just fell in love with. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’d buy the MPA. The Ruger doesn’t have nearly the accessory options of the MPA. To find the balance you like there are both internal and external weight kits that allow you to fine tune the balance point perfectly. I like the rifle to balance about 2-3” in front of the mag well. There are also different grip modules, and lots of other accessories you can add to get the fit, feel, and function you want.

I shoot a lot of PRS matches and it becomes obvious pretty quickly that MPA rules the roost, and I think it’s because you can customize the rifle fit to the point it feels like you want it to. I just don’t see many Rugers on the firing line. Not to say they don’t make a decent rifle, but I think you’d find yourself wanting to upgrade pretty quick. The PMR could end up lasting you a long time.

For your cartridge choice, I think you’re on the right track. The GT is the only small 6mm that has good factory support from a PRS match ammo standpoint. It’s accurate, and tame enough to easily be able to spot your shots.

Enjoy jumping into the PRS game. It’s a ton of fun and pretty addicting!

When I got started with the 6GT, I bought 5 boxes from Altus and used those to zero and start a break-in. Then loaded 33.5gr Varget with a 108ELDM and haven’t looked back since. I’m at 800 rounds at this point.

Been hunting with it too, 9 kills so far.

What velocity are y'all seeing with your barrel length and load? I keep going between GT and creedmoor for my next barrel, planning on 18" shooting 109 eldms with varget or 4350 if I have to.

The vast majority of my hunting is above 8k, with some antelope at 4500, so even 2650 will keep me good on velocity beyond where I will take a shot on an animal.

I’m at 2800fps with my load, 20” Bartlein medium palma. The next one will be shorter, 18” or possible 16”. If I lost some velocity, I’d go up to 34gr Varget to get it back.

I put a CRB hunter contour on my 7 SAUM. It’s 18” and the muzzle OD is .78” if I remember correctly. Very versatile contour and not too heavy even to carry longish distances. Slightly heavier than a Bartlein 3b.
