Never had a good pair of boots

Going on my first elk hunt this september in Idaho. Im a flatlander from MN and have whitetail hunted all my life, but I've never gotten a good pair of boots. Always just got some cheap walmart boots. Looking for something that'll work in Idaho, but also could be used for early season bow in MN. I'd like to go ahead and buy the best of the best, but the bank account wont allow for that, so trying to keep the boot budget at $200 or less. Any recommendations??

I’ve run Danner and they have done decent, only complaint is the tend to break in too much in my opinion. But they are cheap and available most places.

Could always keep your eye out on the classifieds for your size on here. Some pretty expensive boots (Lowa, Crispi, Kenetrek) have sold for around that $200 mark with light use.

I love the Salomon 4D GTX, but they arent waterproof after a couple of days. lol. Very comfortable tho!
I went with Lowa's last year. I love em. They keep you warm in moderate weather and are very waterproof. I used them for elk hunting wyoming in sept and MT in a snowy november environment.

I'm of the opinion that Danner makes a terrible boot and have tossed multiple pairs in the trash after only a handful of uses.

Watch Camofire, Black Ovis, Cabelas, MidwayUSA, etc for sales because sometimes you can get Crispi, Meindl, Kenetrek, Lowa, etc for cheap. Spending more money on boots now improves your odds of not having foot issues during hunting season

I got a pair of Danner Pronghorns that are great boots. I don;t know if I'd use them as mountain climbing boots but if you aren't scaling mountains, they might work - will def work for MN whitetails.

You could always ask outfitter or folks you are going with what they use.

I second the suggestion that you get the boots and wear them enough to break them in. I had gotten mine for a WY trip and used them for a couple of months, walking 2-5 miles a day in them. They are broken in nicely, fit snug and don't rub.

I’m looking for the exact boot as you. Trying to justify spending 300-500 for an occasional hunt out west. (Or anything that is me moving farther than truck to tree stand) I’ve been watching the classified for a size 12

Agree with the Salomon's. They are currently my favorite boot because of how comfortable they are. However, like Scotty said, they are NOT waterproof.

I've heard he Danner's quality has gone downhill, but I'm still loving my pair and they are going strong. I think they work great in the mountains personally, but I put better footbeds in mine to help with foot soreness at the end of the day.

For the middle of the pack brands check out Amazon Prime Wardrobe options, last summer I ordered like 8 pairs of Danners/Irish Setters/etc and then kept the pair I liked without ever paying for any of the others.

Nikes fit me. Reeboks don't. Boots are the same. Danner's don't fit me right. Tight in toe and loose on heel. You will need to try on different brands besides just durability and reputation. Don't fixate on one brand.

Brick and mortar is best but there are online options that allow returns, as previously mentioned.
