Nemo Hornet Elite Osmo 1P Tent Review: Updated with Review

For the 2024 season I decided to change up my tent, I have been using a BA Fly Creek UL 2 for years and while it has been good, I wanted to see what else was out there. I settled on the Nemo Hornet Elite Osmo 1P. Free standing, under 2lbs and little more "robust" was my criteria and upon initial review, the Hornet Elite fits the bill.



Going from a 2P to a 1P is going to be something I pay attention to. I will be using this tent in the early season (August/September) and maybe into October.



I took it out of the box from Blackovis, went outside and set it up, took 2:59, nice and simple. I will keep this thread updated as I get some time in the mountains with it to see how it holds up.

Nice! I have an older 2p hornet and love it. Don’t use it too often unless I’m being lazy as I prefer my bivy/tarp set up, but it’s awesome. Been through quite a few major wind events and storms while backpacking.

That's good to hear! Strong wind is what I am most curious about.

I like the look of this tent. I really appreciate a side entrance and a big vestibule.

I'm curious if you have plenty of room for your pack, rifle or bow, and boots in the vestibule.

I have! No crazy weather to put it through but so far its an awesome tent. Its tight, but everything fits.

Following to see how it holds up in the rain. I’ve been looking at one of these myself but the 1200mm rating doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in rainstorms.

I have a hunt coming up at the beginning of October that could potentially have some rain.

I really like the Hornet elite tents, at one point they were definitely my favorite (and I've tried a ton of them). I was running the 2 person version, but after the last trip with it have decided it's just a tad bit shorter than I wanted.

Hi Brock, I happen to own the original NEMO Hornet 2p tent for at least 5-6 years now and it’s been amazing. Never once had a failure on the tent, nor have I had a leak. It has been in winds to around 60 mph and because I had the guy-outs down it didn’t budge or deflect at all. Just a side note I don’t use the stakes that came with the tent they are too heavy and I didn’t like the design. I bought some ultralight 7075 Aluminum stakes on Amazon which are like .35 ounces each round with a nice head you can push them in by hand and won’t cut your hand, no stones needed to hammer stakes in. If I use a ground sheet it’s the polycyro by Gossamer Gear weighs 1.5 ounces. The most important part of setup on the NEMO Hornet tents is guying out both ends of the tent that way you are safe in a hard rain storm and also have better airflow.

Any reason why you didn’t opt for the 2P other than weight? It’s only 4 ounces more and you get 2 vestibules and bit more room to store gear.

I already have a similar 2P tent made by a different brand and I was trying to go as light as possible. This was my first go with a true 1P tent. The 4oz (would need to verify) could very well be worth the extra space for some.
