Negative comb rifle stock pros/cons

That’s not a negative comb issue. It’s a recoil pad above bore issue. That’s why those stocks have more muzzle lift and movement than the ROKStok- lower recoil pad. A negative comb could have the recoil pad 10” below the bore- and still be a negative comb angle.
yep, you are correct, I should have used more precise language. Several of those stocks have a butt that is proportionally higher relative to the bore as well (as opposed to a very low butt with a big monte-carlo leading to a negative comb). My alterra stock butt is about 1/4" above bore, and with a negative comb--it has no issue with cleaning or bore sighting. Several of the others have a high butt, appears to be slightly higher than bore, but I havent measured--if not they are close. None are AS high as a rokstock, but they all have higher butts than a straight-combed gun with the same cheek-height relative to bore. The point is that that the feature of a higher butt and negative comb is not black and white, at any amount of butt-height above what you are shooting now, combined with a negative comb angle, there is some benefit. Even with a traditionally low butt, a negative comb still helps to alleviate some of the face-slap, even if it doesnt help with the muzzle rise. Just pointing out that the principle and the benefit comes in varying degrees, and that if being able to stuff a cleaning rod down the bore without bending it is a deal breaker, you can still have a highER butt and negative comb, just to a lesser degree. It still comes with a benefit in recoil management.

Yes sir, that’s what I was trying to get at.
