Need help with Stan Shootoff release operation

I got a pre-owned Shootoff! (not the TL) for Fathers Day, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to attach to the D-Loop without having to pinch the clip closed with my fingers. I am not sure if it is broke or I am not using correctly. Any assistance is appreciated.

That is actually how it works. Some Carter’s cock and set close but the stans don’t. For a while I HATED that but eventually it’s second nature and I do it easily and quickly it’s one hand.

Well that is a bit wonky. Would never use this for hunting if that is the case, too much room for error (if happens to fall closed when you set the trigger, you have to fire the trigger, open the clip, then reset the trigger). Oh well, I'll play with it on targets, and see if I can dial it in for that.

I always clip mine on the loop for treestand hunting but if I hunted out west I could see it being more of an issue. Though after familiaring myself with it I wouldn't have trouble doing so. You are correct it can be a bit wonky at first.

I shoot an SX3 and learned to reach out with my middle finger and close the jaw. After several thousand reps it's all but an unconscious act. The last time I shot a hinge I caught myself trying to do the same thing.
