Hey all I’m new to the forum and would like to pick yalls brains. I’m picking up my new Christensen Ridgeline 300RUM tomorrow and am now focusing on what optic to pick up in the next few months. I’m planning to use this for hunting mule deer to elk in NC Montana.

Right now I’m looking at
Nightforce SHV 5-20x-56
Burris xtr ii 4-20 or 5-25
Vortex PST gen 2 5-25
Whiskey 5 5-25
Zeiss v4 or v6

Then possibly if I can justify the extra cost similar magnicification in a vortex razor, Nightforce nxs, Leupold vx6hd or Sig Tango 6

Does anyone have hands on experience with with these scopes and help recommend which direction to go? This is my first step over $1k glass and rifle. (Also currently have a vortex 5-20 scheels exclusive with turrets on a 6.5 creedmoor that works well)

I can speak for the Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 5-25x50 ffp. I've owned almost every vortex gen 1 Viper made (HS LR, HST, and VIPER), and multiples of some of them. They've all been good scopes, and been very reliable. I did break one, but I fell on it during an elk hunt while sprinting down a hill (my fault, but was replaced no questions asked by Vortex). I had such good luck with the gen 1 scopes, that I figured I'd give the gen 2 a go. Well I'm glad that I did. It's twice the scope the gen 1's were. Everything about it seems better. The turrets are immensely better, and the glass is much better. The tracking was so so on the gen 1's (good enough for a newbie getting into long range), but the tracking on my gen 2 is spot on. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I was so impressed with the gen 2 on my semi custom 7 SAUM, that I immediately ordered one for my semi custom 7 mm Rem Mag. It's a fantastic scope, and I couldn't be happier.

For my 300 RUM I started out with the athlon argos BTR and the recoil killed the reticle. Then held out for the athlon Ares, bought it and took it out twice and it would not hold zero. So then I bit the bullet and bought nightforce NXS and love it. Ya my gun is not a light mountain rifle, but I like a heavier rifle.
