Bought brand new tikka T3x lite in 308

While removing factory barrel; threads on action got all marred up. Barrel threads are toast (at this point don’t care about the barrel)

I don’t have a gunsmith near me.

is this action is worth salvaging? Or who could rethread or clean these threads up?

Any advice on where to send it in

At this point will be having a new barrel built if I can remedy the thread issue

Thanks

Those will clean up. You're needing an action blueprint at this point. Stainless is a bithch when it is not lubed.

You CAN buy an action tap, but for not a lot more you can have it single pointed.

The who depends on location. You might have a Smith in your area you can hand it to.

I just had LRI spin up a pre-fit for me. Turnaround was right around a month, and they keep you updated through the process. I'm betting they could take care of you no problem.

Thanks for the comments so far. I will be calling LRI and Hells Canyons. See if I can get some options

That's ugly. I'm not sure how much room you've got to recut. Those front threads look absolutely flattened.

Did you try to get Kroil or another penetratring oil down into it before taking the barrel off?

I wouldnt be worried about how I was gonna fix it, id be jamming it up the factories ass

Yes pretty frustrated. I’ve taken 2 of these apart and built setups off the actions.

I was stunned when this happened.

Yeah I’m sure tikka would tell you to get lost. Pulling a barrel isn’t routine cleaning...

It's not cross threaded, it's stainless on stainless dry...happens almost every time you do that.

Learned my lesson not having kroil around.

Still need to find a solution to hopefully save this action. I have emails out to LRI and a few others right now.

It'll save. Worst case it ends up growing the pitch Dia a bit... but it's not junk. If anyone tells you it's junk, I'll buy it.

Already told you to get a die and chase the threads, it's a simple procedure that pretty much any chimp can do.
