Need Gunsmithing Advice

Already told you to get a die and chase the threads, it's a simple procedure that pretty much any chimp can do.

To be fair, it would be a tap, dies are for external threads.... and what thread class tap would the monkey use?

You're crossing from mechanic to machinist territory.

Agreed with both of you.

Where could I get some of this tooling?

I should have some pricing to fix this hopefully from LRI and Maybe Hartbarrels this week.

I will report back

who has put kroil on before removing a barrel?
?
has kroil got enough lube to save a dry joint?
When I get one that puts up a fight I stop and go cut a relief at the face which USUALLY relaxes enough tension to spin it off. The second stainless starts to gall.....you're screwed.

Price fitting lube for stainless and you understand it's more than just oil.

yep, you got me, it is a tap, wtf was I thinking? Anyway, still a simple monkey fix. You would have to look at the specs from the manufacturer of what they use for the barrel to receiver interface. Simple google search comes up with 1 inch 16 tpi which oddly is exactly the same as the FAL and L1A1 rifles I build.

McMaster is usually a little higher on the $$ end, you can probably find one of these at your local ma and pa hardware store for less, at least the one by me carries a variety of taps and 1"/16tpi shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.

soaking a CM barrel in krioil might help but heat is what works.

call me skeptical that a tap would give a workable result. I think a single point re-cut will be necessary. Not that I’ve done it myself, just have seen the work of some good smiths who have cleaned up threads on older rifles. Generally this includes increasing diameter a skosh as well.

This is single pointed. You "can" get reasonable threads with a tap....the problem is your barrel tennon fit becomes sloppy. A good Smith is going to fit your new tube with a class 3 pitch. If you tap it, he's going to have to do extra work to determine what you ended up with.
