Necking down 7 backcountry to 6mm or 224?

Has anybody thought about this yet? It would be an improvement in theory over 22 creed/6 creed.

Seems very low odds of success, since they seem to have trouble sizing it back to 7 after firing. 22-280ai or 6-280ai would get you most of the way there, and give you almost as bad of throat life as a necked down BC case would.

Steel cases will Be the problem with this. Also I feel like there aren’t even dies for the backcountry…… and the next question. Why waste the time with an unproven cartridge?

There is a guy on Snipers Hide that has done it. I don’t know if he’s actually fired it but he most certainly has sized it down. If I recall he took it down and sized it as a 30 BR.

From the sounds of it most of the case dimensions remain the same after firing save the neck. If that’s so they might be neck sizing for the most part. More and more info keeps trickling out from Federal so we’ll see.

Because if no one ever tried anything new we wouldn’t have any of the successful cartridges we have to shoot today. Yeah someone is going to argue we don’t need anything new at all but hey…..

But if this alloy case deal works out we’ll get an 80Kpsi capability with the extra speed that goes with it and then we’ll be able to smoke more barrels in record time :ROFLMAO:
