Nebraska reducing tags again

If I'm only going to get one buck tag it better be a season choice at least.

I have a very hard time with this, and every part of the state is different. Seems like most of these decisions are coming from folks that spend 4 days of the 9 day rifle season hunting and are making calls based off that. I hunt in 1 unit for all 4.5 months of season. Deer absolutely everywhere right up till the first gun shot went off. Was a long 9 days of watching with the rifle. Muzzy came and right back to deer everywhere and that carried right into antlerless season into the first part of Jan.

Don't know where your hunting but we tried to fill grandpas doe tag during archery and never saw a deer. Crops were up yet so we figured that was the issue. Went back during rifle and Grandpa saw 5 deer, dad saw one and I saw two. The year before we saw over a hundred. Population is definitely down in Republican unit where we hunt.

I'm opposite side of the state in Missouri unit.

They are seasons choice now. No more November rifle permits - just a "buck" permit good for archery, rifle, and muzzleloader season. You still can get the statewide permits for guys who hunt multiple units. Also 1 buck will be for the 2027 season.

I know there are pockets that still have good populations, but the majority of the state is in pretty bad shape. This is directly from this years guide.

I understand there are season choice already, but those are limited to buck only statewide harvest. If we are going to 1 buck then I want to buy a season choice, either sex, tag for my specific unit . That will give me a deer of my choice with a weapon of my choice instead of putting all my eggs in one weapon basket.

November firearm permits are now season choice permits called Unit Buck Permits. I would recommend reading the big game guide, specifically the 'New for 2026' section.Screenshot_20260602-140616.png
