I like the convenience of the nalgene or water bottle, but the noise drives nuts, which is why I usually run a bladder. Are there any tricks I don't know about to silence a half empty water bottle?

Use a regular plastic smart water bottle, as you empty it squeeze it until there’s no air pocket left then tighten cap

I use this one and then squeeze the air out before tightening the cap.

Making sure it's packed vertical instead of sloshing back-and-forth will improve things a little bit, but won't eliminate it.

The only thing I use my Nalgene for is mixing WA H&R with water, and I always slam that immediately so there is no sloshing. I use my water bladder for regular water drinking.

This ^^^

I would say that vertical improves it more than a bit. I keep my nalgene in a pods8 hip belt pouch or the side pocket and have never felt it was an issue. On the flip side I put a 32oz powerade in my lid on a training hike a few weeks ago and nearly lost my mind listening to it slosh around after the first sip. I ended up slamming it per Zap's advice.
