What are the pros and cons to the HDPE models?

Who prefers the narrow mouth bottles and why?

Does anyone prefer canteens, either USGI or Nalgene Oasis, over the 1L Nalgenes?

I use the original "soft sided" 1L Nalgene. I don't know the actual name but it has the old mountain lion logo on the side. It holds up much better than the hard plastic ones for sure.

Wide mouth models fit my water filter and are easier to clean. Make sure to get the clear or translucent so when you are pumping water you can see when it's full. There could be better systems but this one works for me.

I use standard wide mouth Nalgene or the MSR bottles. I saw the narrow mouth lids for them posted up on here last week and I just ordered a few from Amazon. Kinda best of both worlds; will still attach to MSR filter and easy to clean, but you won't spill it down your front if you're gulping or trying to drink while walking or in your sleeping bag.

I have a pile of the 1 liter and 1.5 liter wide mouths. I like them for all the reasons stated, especially the ease of cleaning.

I have tons of Nalgene bottles and use them quite a bit, but they don't make it into the backcountry anymore due to weight. I just take a Gatorade bottle anymore on backpack trips.

I have a variety of the 1/2L, 1L, 1qt, and 1.5L nalgenes. Each has their own use case.

The 1/2L fit nicely in the new Kifaru mini-belt pouches.

I like the 1qt's (nalgene oasis) on my belt rather than the 1L nalgenes. It gets in the way less for me. I use a HPG bottle holder to do this on my Kifaru belt.
The large Kifaru belt pouch can fit two 1qt bottles in it.

I prefer running dual 1.5L bottles rather than a 3L bladder. So much easier to monitor water intake and to clean/store.

I have both wide and small mouth 1 L Nalgene bottles. I hate the wide mouth ones because I always spill on myself when I drink from them. I just purchased a couple of the Nalgene Oasis cantenes though and like them a lot. They have very close to the same capacity of the normal bottles, but are shorter and less top heavy, making them stay in some of my shorter bottle pockets better. I also think they feel better in the hand when you are drinking from them.

I use both the wide and narrow mouth. Take one to work every day. Use one when working out every day (yeah right). I picked up a wide to narrow lid from Amazon last week too. Got a bit tired of wearing it after taking a drink while driving and hitting a bump. I use them when hiking/training but
I do not use them in the back country. I use a Sobe bottle. Citrus Energy Sobe to be exact. Helps on the pack in then becomes my Wilderness athlete mix bottle.

They are heavy so I don't always take them with me (a used Gatorade bottle still fits my filter and is much lighter, though not as durable). When I do take it I have it set up with the Humangear Cap like the pictures show. Best of both worlds, you get the easy cleaning and filling of the wide mouth with the easy to drink cap of the narrow mouth. They sure are nice to sleep with when filled with hot water at night...
