Has anyone had any luck loading a 6.5 PRC with N565 powder? I have multiple bullets to choose from. My rifle is 24” barrel with 1:7 twist. Just curious about others results.

My 22" 7.5 Twist shot them very well with that combo and ADG brass with a Fed210M primer. I had accuracy close to the lands which rendered the rifle a single shot, and also shot them well with more jump to mag feed (short action). I've since moved to a 147 ELDM with N565- also shoots great. I will try to look tonight at the powder charge I landed on.

Good to know.

6.5 prc custom rifle with medium action, 24” barrel 7.5 twist. Berger 156 EOL, lapua brass, federal 210M primer. I would be interested in trying ADG brass instead of lapua, I have more ADG brass than lapua brass just to see how they compare. Curious on what others similar to my rifle are getting with 156 and the results with the two different brass.

Tagged in as well. I have a new 6.5 PRC barrel on a Tikka and finally have some N565, 147 ELDM's and 210M's to start load development.

Any updates?
No I’ve been out of the country for 3 weeks so didn’t make much progress so far. I originally bought a case of factory Norma 143 golden target to use the once-fired brass and for practice, so I’ve mostly been shooting that to get brass.

I just loaded a 10 round pressure ladder from 54.0 - 59.5 and loaded another 10 rounds at 57.0 for group testing. Hoping to get out this weekend to shoot it.

My combo for reference:
20” 1:7.5 PVA prefit in 6.5 PRC on tikka T3
Fed 210M primer
N565
Hornady 147 ELD-M
Once-fired Norma brass from factory ammo fired in my rifle.

Here is how the rifle did with factory ammo. I shot 10 sight-in/break-in rounds prior. So these are rounds 11-40.

I was able to get out and shoot a pressure ladder yesterday. These pressure signs only apply to my rifle and load combination, so make sure to do your own ladder starting at a lower weight. I got a slight ejector mark at 58.5, heavier bolt lift and deeper ejector swipe at 59.0, and same signs and stopped at 59.5.

I had loaded 10 at 57.0 to see roughly how it grouped and got a 0.8 MOA 5-shot group at 100 yds. I shot another 5 at 630 yards but the mirage got brutal and wind picked up, so I didn't get a useful velocity with only 2 shots on paper and I wouldn't have trusted them much anyway.

The accuracy looks promising, so I'm going to bump it up to 57.5 to squeeze a little more speed out of the 20" barrel and hopefully get a better velocity measurement and 10 round group size next time. I'm just looking for 1.5 MOA accuracy, so I should be done with load development after the next session.

What did you see for velocity at those powder charges?

I don't have a chrono, so I was trying to get my velocity from the drop at 630 but the conditions didn't cooperate. Based on the drop I was seeing from impacts, I'm only getting around 2700 with 57 grains. I was at 60 rounds down the barrel shooting that group, so hoping I pick up some more speed still as the barrel wears in and gain a few fps from bumping up to 57.5.

I’m using n-565 in my 6.5 PRC with ADG brass, federal 210 or cci br-2 primers and 156 Berger’s. Barrel is a 24” 7.5 twist. New brass pressure hit around 59.3 grains and was definitely getting swipes at 60. After first firing I backed off from 59 to 58.7 and get 2940 fps with good accuracy. I will be on third firing for my brass soon and have a feeling I will have to back off another half grain or so since I think it still may be expanding to chamber size. Please note that this load is right below pressure and may be hot for most rifles. I’m running the bullets .010 off the lands with only .010 neck tension.
