bought a marshall finally loaded it up with 20+ lbs and went for a little walk.
have some trouble some probs im sure are because never done this so its uncomfortable and my legs are weanies:o

got waist on tight, pulled top lifter straps to get close as possible to body, then tightened straps under pits just snug,
went walking feels like need to be bent over, and felt loose on back a 1/3 down from top lifters couldnt tighten more,so the only way to get it feel like its tight is to crank pit straps which also pulls on shoulders alot.

also it seems that my brain says to curl shoulders forward when walking

i must be weird too cause with a bag on my back i seem to want to put hands pocket like a hooded sweatshirt or grip the shoulder straps

seen the videos
,i have the height to what i beleive is right, being a absolute new thing not sure if its an error in process or just not sure what to feel

get your waist belt tight first and then try tightening the shoulder straps before the lifters. you shouldn't have to crank down on the lifters. they just pull the straps up off your shoulders. it's possible that your bending the frame away from your body and that's why it feels loose 1/3 the way down your back.

Lifters get tightened last. The straps/yoke get fitted for the right height and snugged to their position (after you have the belt on) and then you pull on the lifters to pull the frame to the straps and lift the straps up a bit. The pull point on the straps should be forward of the top of the shoulder a bit. I think since you tightened the lifters first you can't get the yoke up against your back and the straps fitting around your shoulders properly.

also what are you using for weight? When I pack weight for training. I cinch up the bottom sleeping bag compartment until its not even there, then drop a big pillow down into the main bag so its sitting on the divider between the main bag and sleeping bag compartment, and then on top of that pillow I drop my sand bag in. Which is duct taped up so its about 3 ft long and a foot or so wide. That way it isn't just a big ball sitting in the bottom of the bag. Which will ride like crap and make you want to lean forward to counter balance it.

i believe the sleep comp. is tight and have a pillow on bottom , and a 20# bag of ice melt that is duct taped like an hour glass so its not a blob, but i think its sitting flat in pack though and a pillow or 2 on top to fill bag. i'll take a look and rearrange it.
thanks guys for helping

Mystery Ranch packs are great - I followed the videos then gradually kept adjusting my longbow "shorter" if that makes sense. It was weird because I thought I liked the waistbelt lower on my hips for my backpacking packs, but I ended with it pretty high on my stomach. I probably didn't get it dialed until I used it for a full year. Eventually it fit me like a glove, very comfortable pack with a load. Then I sold it - now I have to start all over

Play with the yoke adjustment. I think most folks tend to get them too long.

When you put it on:

Tighten waist belt

Snug up shoulder straps (load lifters completely loose)

Snug up load lifters

Slightly loosen shoulder straps

Snug up sternum strap

Awesome post here by Jason.. The order you adjust the pack is very important because when you snug one part of the pack it will affect another. Make sure you follow those instructions exactly. I'm wondering about fit. If you're comfortable doing so, can you post a profile pic of how the pack is resting?
