Mystery Ranch Pop up 30/40 for a daypack/meat capabilities - or something else???

I need a new a pack - I have been using a Badlands 2200 daypack that has been awesome over the years and somehow has survived having to pack out deer quarters multiple times. But it doesn't really have a frame and anything bigger than a deer hind quarter doesn't really fit without jerryrigging it up with rope.

This past weekend my buddy killed a bull and we somehow strapped a rear quarter to that badlands and packed it out, but man it was a crappy hike out - my shoulders and lower back are still sore.

What I want or am looking for is decent daypack type system that gives me around 2000" of pack for hunting gear, but then can haul out a first load of meat up to say the size of an elk quarter.

What should I be looking at? Does the mystery ranch fill the bill? Also have been recommended to look at the Kiraru Kuttthroats?

What about a Kuiu 2200?

I am all ears - hoping to pick up this pack on a black friday deal in the next week or two.

Get a frame you like, then just have a day hunt bag and an extended stay bag… I went with the k4 3600 and 5000, seems like a great way to streamline your pack setup

I've not used the 30 or 40 but have used the 28 many times for boned out deer (along with gear). It works well for that, but as weight and size of what's being packed goes up, it suffers.

I've been playing with an Eberlestock Modframe this year and think it's a pretty solid system. I've used the Mainframe in prior years but think the Modframe is an improvement. With the Vapor 2500 (what I'm using) it's a good fit for what you mentioned.

Seem to find a lot good reports on the Exo K4. Going that route I would want a 2200 bag. With the new X version coming out, maybe there will be some deals on the original?

I believe they mentioned in their podcast that they would not be discounting the current K4 model as the new X version is not really a replacement. However, they will be having their annual Black Friday sale beginning next week and that is a great time to pick up their pack. I use the K4 with 2200 bag and it is excellent. For longer trips, I use the 5000 bag. Great product from a great company with fantastic customer support.

Get a stone glacier or exo and be done. They both can suck down and be used as day packs easily.
