Hmmmm……I like the look of the Sawtooth 65. Wonder what differences there are between the guide lite mt frame, the new last year ultralight frame and this new mysteraniun frame. Hmmmm.

Hmmm. So is this yet another frame?

There was NICE and then Guide Light And then guide light MT. Then I thought they introduced a new frame last year with the new versions of the metcalf. Is this the same frame as last year or something newer? What changed besides buckles, which prolly offers zero benefit and means the new packs and frames don’t work with the old packs and frames, which kind of defeats the point of having a module f#$&g pack and frame system, mystery ranch, you dumb f#$&s!

The only change I could see with the new frame was change to a more breathable fabric on the back-panel, belt and shoulder straps.

I think their marketing philosophy is just like apple and their iphones. and it works because the sheeple will continue to buy buy buy...

Maybe they buy it because it worked well for them in the past and for some brand past performance for some companies is indicative of future performance. But carry on because Sheeple is just a great adjective to jump start a discussion about gear on a gear forum.

The only benefit the new buckles offered was a lower manufacturing cost that definitely was not passed on to the consumer. Much more fragile as well.

Glad I gathered a bunch of bags to swap when the rumor was they were done with packs. It was stated above, but having a modular pack system but constantly changing the platform is a jerk move, I'll look elsewhere if my current setup dies.

Weird decisions from Mystery Ranch. Several of the "improvements" they made on the new Metcalf frame (adjustable load lifter angle, different hipbelt) aren't present on this one. Using more weather resistant fabrics on some portions of the bag but not others accomplishes nothing.

The lack of backwards compatibility is crazy but not surprising. I get that all businesses exist to make a profit, but some are more customer-focused than others. Mystery Ranch is definitely on the soulless evil corporation side of things than something like Stone Glacier or Seek Outside.

I'm eyeing that 65 as well. I'm not sure why they made some of the changes on the frame. I would have thought that they would have use the same frame/suspension as the new Metcalf that launched not long ago.

I'm interested to see what people think of it. Especially those that have had multiple iterations.

I am an MR fan boy. Bought my first Dana design pack in the 90s. Still have some NICE frames and bags I use as trainers and loaners. I had a guide light. It was fine. Did the guide light MT upgrade and it was better. Didn’t care for the beartooth and sawtooth bag layouts. I run a terra frame 80 bag and a pintler and haven’t put that many nights on either. It would be hard for me to drop the coin on the latest version, frame especially since they don’t sell them as separates and they wouldn’t be compatible.

In our family, we have a nice frame, guide lite and a guide lite MT. I’m short for my weight, and my favorite is the nice frame. I like the others also, but the nice frame fits me the best and I love that it doesn’t stick above my head. The 5 piece belt on the MT works really well and probably carries the best.
Thanks. -Rufus

I am a mystery ranch fan as much as anyone it just sucks that their bags and frames aren't compatible with different generations. From a Business standpoint though, I get it. New product every year with miniscule improvements and enough people to buy them every year probably results in large profits.

My experience is similar to Rufus.

My NICE fit the best but have a pretty significant weight penalty, partly associated with the fact that all my remaining NIcE frames and bags are the .mil versions. I am tall though so I liked when the guidleight came out with more lift but the belt never really settled right on me. The guidelight MT is a significant improvement in the belt construction and design. Not clear the new version offers enough to make me consider an upgrade but I will reserve judgment until I see one in a store.
