After MR stopped making the hunting packs in Bozeman, we never bought another.
Dana made his money and now MR is a thing of the past, much like most of old Bozeman.

I had a client years ago that was friends with this guy named Dana that made packs. Military guy. He was shocked that I knew who he was talking about.

That would be a big wow. I have been a Dana Designs / MR fanboy for a long time. Their hunting line is my go to. The military stuff is bombproof.

TBH I can’t say I love them for what backpacking I do and I can see why that might not have been their best market. When I go on non hunting trips I tend to use a less robust pack that is a lot lighter. I had been rocking a gossamer gear pack that weigh 2# which is half the weight of the comparable MR pack. While I love those classic Dana designs, I think other brands have done more with weight cutting and fabrics that tend to be the fashions of the day. Like many backpackers, I just can’t see the need for a pack that has a 5-6# base weight when I am hauling lighter loads.

I wonder if Yeti is like the old Remington Arms. Buy up a bunch of companies and ruin them before the ink is dry.
